Shepherd's pie
Nov. 30th, 2003 03:35 amI made shepherd's pie with ground lamb. It was yummy. I followed the recipe in the new (1997) version of Joy of Cooking. I usually prefer the 1975 edition, but that recipe called for using hash. Didn't sound right to me. I added a layer of frozen corn between the meat and the mashed potatos. So, it wasn't exactly like they make it in England. We had salad with it, but there are vegis, meat, and potatos in the shepherd's pie, so the salad isn't really necessary.
In Joy of Cooking, they wrote that if you use ground beef it is called cottage pie, but I think it should be called cowboy pie, 'cause cowboys herd cattle. On the other hand, cowboy pie sorta sounds like it is made with ground cowboys.
