Does anyone here use Blogger? I know that [livejournal.com profile] thothmeister has a blog on blogger, how about the rest of you. I want to know how it compares to LJ. What are the differences and similarities? Do any of you use other cool blogs?

The advantage Blogger has over LJ though is that if you know HTML (as I do, you can create your blog design 100% to your tastes - right out of the box. Blogger itself has a pay option like LJ does, but there are more toys to play with to start.

It's true that commenting on Blogger still isn't great. I use an outside source for mine from Haloscan. It doesn't have anonymous commenting, but at least it's open to all. I found it before Blogger got commenting, the one major feature they lacked for years.

I guess in my case, the real advantage of Blogger is that I found it first. :) I think that contributed to me having one there and on LJ.

I thought Blogger discontinued its premium service when Google bought it, except for those who already had paid for it.

I mis-phrased that: Blogger itself is free. It was on the Blog*spot sites they allow, where it's only pay to get rid of their ugly web banner. That might still be in place, or it may have been incorporated into their new Blogger bar. I haven't checked.

When you say that only other Blogger members can comment, does that mean that on LJ, non-LJ users can comment on posts? Also, is there any way to make non-LJ users friends so that they can read friends-only entries?

Blogger.com is another Weblog system, one that likely began around the same time as LJ. It can be incorporated into other Websites (I host one on my Tripod site), but they also offer their own webspace to host one.

I've used it. In fact, I originally started out there... and then switched to LiveJournal. It's not that it was a bad experience... it just lacked the sense of community that LiveJouranl boasted at the time. I believed that Blogger's interface annoyed me as well.

I started out on Diaryland because LJ was "invite code only" at the time and no one could get me one. Diaryland kind of sucks because you have to pay to have the function where people can comment and the search function for other diaries is a joke.

I know a lot of people who use Blogger, but you have to be a Blogger user to comment. Since I don't want a Blogger account, I have friends on whose journals I can't make comments. I understand the customization of the layout, but that's far from a priority with me.

Well, I had one on Talk'n jot, and one on Greatestjournal.

The first one is quite special, but nothing compared to lj. The other one is a BIG COPY of livejournal. they all copied the codings, and added some more. I really don't want to encourage this kind of thing.

There is also Deadjournal.. but again, it's about the same as LJ..

And.. well. In fact those are all I know.. I hope it helped.

You do know that the code for LiveJournal is open source? It's in the FAQ. They even tell you that you can run your own blog thing like LJ using the code.
