Last summer we bought new patio doors. They have already saved us money. The doors weren't cheap, but we figure it will take about five years for them to pay for themselves. We got the fancy ones with two sets of doors. One set of doors is double glazed and has an insulating film. We heat with electricity. In spite of last winter being hard & cold, this is what our Hydro consumption looks like.

I'm very pleased. By rough estimate, the doors will pay for themselves in five years! I'm going to be far less reluctant to replace windows now.

The reason the consumption didn't go down in summer is 'cause we bought a new air-conditioner. Beween having a more efficient air-conditioner and having better insulated doors, we could actually cool the whole house. So, we ran the air-conditioner a whole lot more than we ever ran the old one.
