At ~19h00, our power went out. When it's as cold as it is now (-23C), that's always scary. Not only is all of our heat electric, one worries that the power outage will last a long time, not just a few hours.

I phoned Hydro Québec and the automated system told me that it was caused by equipment failure and they expected the power back at 20h30. At 20h30, we called again and the power was expected to be back at 21h30. At 21h15, the prediction was 22h30. Luckily the power came back on at ~21h40. According to the news on the radio, there was a fire a few blocks away. Hydro was not keeping the radio station up to date.

It's amazing how quickly life comes to a halt when the power goes out. I'd be tempted to crawl into bed and wait for the power to return!

Once we had candles lit all over the house, we crawled under a duvet on the couch to share heat.

You don't worry about cat-candle interactions?

I always think about it. Then I remember that they are good about the candles. They don't like getting too close to the flames.
