Deck the Halls
You are 'Deck the Halls'! Let's be honest, it
isn't Christmas you are celebrating, is it? In
fact, you know full well that there were no
shepherds in the fields in December, and that
the date of Christmas was put at midwinter
specifically to coincide with the older
celebrations of Yule and the birth of Mithras.
An unashamed Pagan, you take great glee in the
number of carols referring to holly, evergreens
and Winter's end, and will sing them with
gusto. You know where they really came from.
And you do enjoy the seasonal celebrations,
regardless of their name... A merry Yule to
you!

What Christmas Carol are you?

To quote [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya, "I still derive amusement from it, though, as I am well aware the "fa la la la la"s are euphemisms for racy subtext." And thank you [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya, for that tidbit about the racy subtext.

Yep, that's what "fa la la"s mean whenever they're encountered, generally.

My favourite example of this phenomenon is "Now is the Month of Maying". Remind me when next we're together and I'll sing the tune of it for you.

Now is the month of Maying,
When merry lads are playing,
Fa la la...

Each with his merry lass,
A-dancing on the grass,
Fa la la...

Fie, then, why sit we musing,
Youth's sweet delight refusing?
Fa la la...

And there's more. That's just all I remember offhand.

I'm pretty sure they are referring to some variant version of the carole that is about networks or something else Nowell related.
