Tourtière making party
Oct. 25th, 2003 12:16 amOnce upon a time, long ago, I had a canning party. A bunch of friends got together and we went to the Jean-Talon market and bought strawberries and tomatoes. One person, with a car, had already bought canning jars. We made strawberry jam and catsup that everyone got to bring home. It was great fun.
swestrup and I made a large lasagna for supper. I made the sauce and he assembled and baked it. I suggested that we have a lasagna party - make the pasta and the lasagna as part of the party. Or maybe a pasta party - make lots of homemade pasta that people could bring home. Now both of these parties would be a lot easier in the kitchen I had at the time of the long-ago canning party. Then I suggested a tourtière party. This sounded much better to
swestrup. In case anyone doesn't know (and I hate to sound so immodest), I make a dynamite tourtière. It's based on a recipe from Madame Benoit and has had my personal modifications.
So, who wants to come? We'll have to work out the details and when, but who would be interested? Of course, there will be tourtière for supper. The idea is that everyone contributes and helps make a whole bunch of tourtières and people bring some home. We should probably start early in the afternoon - we can only bake about 7 pies at a time. They freeze and microwave really well and make a great quick meal or snack. I would also like to hear from people who would like to come for the social portion, but might not be interested in bringing home any tourtière.
Please note, we live on the West Island of Montréal. Roxboro station (on the Two Mountains train line) isn't terribly far.
