toxic waste is gone

Today, everything seems to turn into a project. We decided to plan a few meals in advance. That should stop the "What are we going to make for supper?" and then realizing that the ingredients are frozen problem. So, I suggested that we write the meals on a small calendar white board that is magnetically attached to our fridge. I took it off the fridge and three of four magnets stayed on the fridge. So, the project became hot glueing the magnets back onto the calendar.
swestrup decided to cook up a batch of Italian sausage (we like to have them ready to eat as snacks). Well, he had just started to boil the sausages (he fries them after they are boiled), when we saw flames coming out from under the pot. The flames were quickly put out with baking soda, but the smoke detector had to switched off. Then the burner, tray, and ring had to be scrubbed to get rid of any grease that might have caused the fire. We also put a new one of those aluminium protector thingees, in case that was were the fuel for the fire was. It was time to change it anyway. We have no idea what was burning. I had cooked supper on that burner earlier this evening with no problem. So, some minor excitement, but all seems well now.
This afternoon we hauled some stuff to the Ecocentre de l'Acadie: fluorescent tubes, batteries, dead lighters, an empty paint can, and a rusty old propane tank. The fluorescent tubes were long enough that they had to go in the back seat at an angle. The propane tank was a nuisance. I didn't want it rolling around in my trunk, so we had to find the tie down points and attach it with bungee cords. But, even they were long enough that we had to tie knots in them to shorten them. If it hadn't been for the propane tank, I could have folded down a seat for the fluorescent tubes. But, I really didn't want to take any chance of the propane tank rolling onto the tubes and crunching them. I am very pleased to have that stuff out of my house. It would be more ecological if it wasn't a 25 km round trip to the nearest ecocentre.
We also did some minor shopping. Picked up tissues and toilet paper at two separate pharmacies, 'cause they were on special. Picked up bread and celery at Health Tree. Picked up windshield washer fluid and some light bulbs at Canadian Tire. I found a mini-fluorescent tri-light for my torchiere (it burnt out in less than an hour and was hot, so it goes back). We also went to Access Electronique (which used to be DDO Electronique) to look at some cables and a crimper. Part of the logic of going to all those stores, was that they were all on our route. But, what had sounded simple, turned into a project.
G'night all.
