Upgrading Bossy the computer
Mar. 11th, 2004 03:06 amI backed up the hard disk and I'm finally going upgrade my computer. I thought I had 256 Meg of RAM, but when
swestrup opened it up, there was only 128 Meg. Eek, no wonder it was so danged slow. We finally found out that I can use 133 mhz(sp?) RAM, even though my computer takes 100 mHz RAM. That's really good news, 'cause those are cheaper. I will end up with 768 Meg, which is as much as my computer can hold. My tax and bookkeeping software are real memory hogs and I often run them at the same time, along with email and agenda software.
I get a 20 gig hard disk that
swestrup isn't using and he gets my 8 gig hard disk to put in a computer that has a 4 gig hard disk. Once the 4 gig hard disk is out, we can swap it with a friend for 128 meg of RAM. I'm exchanging my 2 x 64 meg of RAM and the 128 meg from the friend with another friend for 1 x 256 meg. My poor old 'puter only has three slots. Is your head spinning yet?
I'm also upgrading from Win98se to XP Pro. I've read on the Intuit forums that both the accounting and tax software run much better on XP. At the moment I'm posting from
swestrup's computer. I can hardly wait to start using my "new computer", hopefully some time tomorrow.
