D'oh day

One of these days I will learn that I need to sleep. I stayed up all Thursday night. I had to deliver a tax return to a client in the East End, near the Olympic Stadium. I hunted and hunted for the file, so I could finish printing it. Eventually, I found it with the files that are completely ready to go. Yes, it was completely ready to go. I finished some work for another client. Don't ask why I had been procrastinating on that, it was fun.

So, at 10h15 on Friday I headed out to see my client. Traffic was fairly dreadful on highway 40 "between the 15s" and for a fair bit after that. I arrived at 11h05. Then I had to drive around and look for a parking spot. I can usually just park across the street, but for anyone who hasn't noticed, there were huge piles of snow everywhere. I eventually found a spot that wasn't for "détenteurs de permis" only. Oops. I got stuck. I went to see my client and discovered that I had left his files at home, d'oh! Not a completely wasted trip though. He paid me and gave me stuff for his 2007 taxes. He said that I should just wait and give him his copies of 2006 when 2007 was ready.

I remembered that I have a fold up shovel in the trunk of the car. I went back to my car and shovelled a bunch of very heavy and somewhat  crusty snow. I got in the car and gave it a try. Spin, spin, spin...grrr. I turned the steering wheel. I tried drive and reverse. No luck. No hope of rocking it out - it didn't budge one millimetre. So, I called CAA. After about a half an hour a CAA truck showed up. The guy hooked a long ribbon shaped cord to the hook on the front of my car. He said to put it in neutral and keep my foot near the brake. After a few moments of resisting, the car started to move. Yay! I signed the worksheet and thanked him profusely.

The trip home was exhausting (remember, no sleep). I was already a bit stressed. The traffic on the 40 westbound bogged down fairly quickly. There was an accident near l'Acadie and two (out of three) lanes were closed. That backed up a long ways. It took even longer to get home than to get there. It's only a 31 km trip. I stopped at the bank on the way home and deposited the cheque. The rest of the day was a right-off.

Anyhoo, if I had had enough sleep, I probably would have remembered to bring the client file and I probably would have figured out not to choose that parking spot. And [livejournal.com profile] swestrup thinks that we have some traction aids. This seems to ring a bell. I might have thought of that if I had had enough sleep.
