Important request

Emru Townsend is one of my friends. He is a really cool guy, a husband and father, and an animation and technology writer. He has leukemia. He needs a bone marrow transplant. His only sibling, his sister is not a match.

This isn't just about Emru; it's about all the members of ethnic minorities who need a bone marrow transplant. Ethnic minorities are seriously underrepresented in the bone marrow registries of the world. That is where they are most likely to find a match, but it could be from anyone.

Here's a link to Emru's website: http://www.healemru.com/index-en.php

His family and friends are putting an enormous effort into getting the word out about signing up for the bone marrow registry. Would you please help get the word out? There's lots of info and links on Emru's website.

Edit: I forgot to mention that there are graphics and posters in PDF format on the HealEmru website that can be printed and posted. I guess I better remember to do that myself.

I've put a note into his sister's LJ.

Kewl. You are already a star for being registered in the bone marrow registry.

I couldn't say no. I'm mixed race, O+, and it's just a mouth swab.

I'm mixed race too, even though Saami isn't exactly Caribbean or African, but you never know. But, I don't qualify in Canada. I'm too old. Phooey

You still help by telling others, so don't worry.

The Montreal office just sent out an email about this just now - hopefully a match will be found. I cross my fingers!

I got rejected a while back from giving blood/marrow/really anything because of my ink and piercings.

Have a look at Hema Québec's site (There is a link at the HealEmru site). I think I read that you just have to wait six months.

Oh maybe they changed it!

The first time I went they said I had to wait was 2 years, the second time it was 5, the third time they basically said "never" which was ridiculous. I will check it out.
