Growing herbs

Last year I grew rosemary, parsley, and Greek basil, as well as the chives that just keep coming back. This year I want to grow some more kinds of herbs.

Is anyone interested in sharing some seed packets? I have such a tiny yard, that I won't be growing much of any one kind. I figure if two or more people get together and choose some varieties, we could share the cost.

I might try that again. Last time the seeds never sprouted. Chili is of less interest, because I can buy a bag of fresh chilis and they stay good in the fridge for many weeks.

The other herbs are more expensive and don't stay fresh more than a few days. The choice isn't huge. I have really been enjoying the few plants I have. Fresh rosemary is so different from those horrible little sticks you find in a jar of dried rosemary. I wonder about thyme.

You should try growing some herbs. They grow well in pots.

My in-laws grow their own parsley and it's infinitely better than what you can buy at the stores (both the frosen and fresh varieties)

As for me growing herbs I'm sure the kitties would welcome the chance to throw dirt all over the place - over the last few years I've come to the conclusion that (my) cats and plants don't go well together.

The only non-herb plant I have is an aloe vera that is growing in a hanging pot at the kitchen window. That's because of cat - plant issues. But, I haven't had that problem with shreddy and herbs. I did smell basil on his breath the first day the plants came indoors, but never since. And yesterday he horked a little bit of chive, but that was the first time. And these plants are in pots on the floor. Herbs may be too pungent for the kitties.

My kitties go after both the plant, the pot and the dirt in the pot, so... no plants. (Until I get some kind of high shelf or hanging system in place)

I haven't had that problem with shreddy and herbs

That doesn't count because it's dried and we give it to him. There seems to be a pile on the stairs now, where we usually put it for him.

Reminds me of a story. Years ago, swestrup's mum had a cat named Cat. When he was allowed to go outside, he was very wimpy. swestrup's mum planted some catnip in her garden. Cat was very happy, but big, bully tomcats wanted it too. Cat "manned up" and defended the yard. He wasn't going to let anyone else steal his drugs. :D

The plan worked.

I would have to grow it inside - shreddy doesn't go outside so he wouldn't be able to defend it.
